Da Nang – Ocean city and fishermen’s homeland
Da Nang is located on a long coastline of about 74 km, with many wild islands and a remarkable peninsula to the north of the city. Da Nang offers a whole range of seafood all year long, ready to be picked!
As the city is surrounded by the sea, many inhabitants become fishermen, sailing on their boats to sail on the ocean at sunset. The ocean is very important for local people as it provides them with a way to earn a living and allows them to take care of their families.
The fishing can last from one day to half a month, depending on the type of seafood you want to fish. Fishermen use light to attract fish at night. That’s why, if you look at the sea at night, you’ll see big searchlights attached to the front of the fishing boats as they attract fish to catch. Even if you put the net in the water for a short time, you can catch a huge amount of fish. All fish are kept in the ice after being caught. Once the fishermen are happy, they return to their families ashore, often in the early morning for the fish market.
Due to the importance of the ocean, local people worship Lady Buddha, who is at the top of the peninsula with Linh Ung Pagoda. This statue is the tallest statue of Lady Buddha in Vietnam (67 meters high). She stands facing the mountain, facing the ocean, watering with one hand a holy water, which brings peace and security to fishermen for a long time. It is almost like a lighthouse or lighthouse as they head for the sea.
Thanks to these fishermen, a variety of seafood is available on land. Locals and guests from afar can enjoy fresh seafood in many different ways and with many flavors. The list below includes the famous seafood and seafood markets in Da Nang. Enjoy your meal!
How to eat seafood in Vietnam
Before introducing you to the best seafood in Da Nang, I would like to show you how seafood is usually presented in Vietnamese restaurants. When you enter a local restaurant, many large bins of colorful fish and sea creatures can catch your eye at first. These bins are not just for decoration! All the inhabitants of the ocean swimming in the bins will become your dishes later. After sitting at your table, head to the fish ponds. Someone over there will take your order when you indicate the fish you want. There is usually a wall chart with the catches and prices of the day. Make sure you get what you want. Sometimes, communication is lost in translation and you can end up with a bill more expensive than expected. The person who took your order will then take out your basket and weigh it, then send it to the kitchen or to the grills. Each restaurant usually has its own way of preparing dishes. Sometimes it’s just with fish sauce, green onions and peanuts. Other times, they have a more elaborate preparation. Make sure you specify how you want your food to be cooked before you sit down. Do not forget to have at least one fish prepared in a hot pot! This is usually not a supplement and parts of the fish like the head, which is often thrown away, are then turned into a delicious soup!
Please note that some dishonest owners will substitute the seafood you have selected for poor quality seafood at the back of the restaurant. This circumstance is quite rare, but you should always be aware in case this happens. As usual, frequented places are usually good places! So judge a book on its cover (especially seafood).
